A descendant of the well-known Boer general Christiaan Rudolph de Wet, he was born in Bethlehem in the Free State of South Africa where his father and mother farmed. After matriculated in Ventersdorp in 1975 he undertook military service before returning to study at The University of Pretoria (Tukkies) where he obtained a B Com degree and ultimately a chartered accountants qualification in 1989. Despite his family ties Rudolph is not politically inclined at all. He learned to play the guitar from his uncle (Chris Bezuidenhout) who mastered Spanish and classical styles. As his technique and abilities developed he discovered a talent for eloquently interpreting the sentiment and emotions of the Afrikaaner people, in a way that related personally to his experiences. This empathetic awareness ultimately materialized the song book that is his debut album, X13. Recorded at Peace of Eden Recording Studio in 2008, X13 is a textured tapestry of songs concerning love, passion and a deep connectedness to his roots in South Africa and the rich Afrikaner culture. X13 is an Afrikaans album that will have you listening again and again. |
